The Crane Assembly Disciples Old Vine Zinfandel Petite Sirah 2015

$44.99

New release!                                                        The second vintage of Dave Phinney's Disciples Red, the 2015 has arrived.  The new Prisoner!  Limited. previous vintage 94 Points Robert Parker:  "The Disciples Proprietary Blend, which is made from 93% Zinfandel and 7% Petite Sirah tips the scales at 15.7% alcohol. The Zinfandel plantings date from the 1880s and were better known as the source for Biale’s Old Crane Zinfandel. This wine displays spicy, peppery steak tartare, roast Provençal herbs, and briary black cherry and blackberry fruit. It has terrific body, length, richness and viscosity. It is a sensational Zinfandel to drink over the next 5-7 years." From the new winery The Crane Assembly, the Disciples 2014 Red has quite a back story.  In August of 2012, four friends (Dave Phinney, Darryl Browman, Kevin A. Fox and Bryan D. Sandoli) stood in the middle of a block of hundred year old Zinfandel. The vineyard was planted by George Beldon Crane in the late nineteenth century and is one of the icons of the Napa Valley. Hours earlier they had signed the paperwork to buy the vineyard and it was just in the nick of time...they picked the grapes the next morning.  Since that first year wines were made from our G.B. Crane Vineyard under the el Coco label and the GB Crane label.

15’ Disciples Zinfandel Blend. Must confess I’m not a Zinfandel drinker. Certainly don’t mind a glass every now and then. Especially this time of year. My better half and I had a glass apiece & gave the rest of the bottle to the wait staff. I’m certain they’re enjoying it. Color- Black... no- Dark Garnet, bingo! Loads of raspberry, ripe strawberries, two packs for a dollar black licorice, pile on the spices, smooth integrated tannins. What’s not to like! Pull the cork & enjoy. Cheers!

Crane Assembly centered around a unique 8-acre vineyard located in St. Helena & believed that George Beldon Crane, or simply G.B. Crane, first established grapes on this site in 1885. A blend of 76% Zinfandel, 13% Charbono, 6% Grenache and 5% Petite Sirah, aromas of fruit and sweet spice. On the palate jammy plum flavors with tons of complex spice and oak. Full rich tannins, great mouthfeel, lingering ending with pepper cigar box spice. Very nice!

Very interesting red blend from The Crane Assembly. Medium purplish red. Tight on the nose with anise, a touch savory and a little of cocoa. Moderate tannins (5.5/10) and medium to medium plus bodied. Fuller attack with a lighter finish. Very dark attack with cocoa, bramble berries and a little jammy. Long and herbal finish. Drink till 2024.

Great Zinfandel blend with high levels of spicy fruit and smokey oak all balanced in the glass to create a wine which is a meal in itself. Been looking for this for a while, drank last night and went back to the store this morning to get another bottle, any further recommendation needed?
