Terra Valentine Spring Mountain District Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

$54.99

A fantastic find in Spring Mountain Cabernet - one of the best $40 Cabs we've found in Napa Valley. 94 Points Wine Enthusiast:  "Black currants and cedar mingled with loamy earth and sage on the nose followed by chewy bright fruit onm the palate with a smooth and mocha finish." 94 Points Brix26: "Nose of black violets, cocoa nibs, eucalyptus, mint, cedar and Mexican chocolate. The texture is almost indescribable with soft, well-integrated tannins and plush ribbons of fruit that take the palate on a layered ride of caramel, toasted marshmallow, mineral notes and shitake-umami flavors. Drink now through 2022."

Impenetrably dark purple. Initial high octane heat on the nose because everything about this just screams Huge Napa Cab. After around an hour of decanting, things calm down the bouquet blossoms with cedar, blueberry, blackberry, and mushrooms. Slight touches of lavender and vanilla are showing, as well. Is this another huge California Cab? Of course it is, how could it not be? But there is most definitely a nice complexity and smoothness here. It’s not just another in the pack, that gorgeous mountain fruit shines through. It’s really hard to go wrong with those Spring Mountain resources and that takes this wine to the next level. Oak and more tobacco are initial on the palate but never in an encroaching or overpowering manner. Dried cherries and fresh herbs then take over. Long finish with minimal spice and massive tannins. You can definitely do a lot worse than this.

Consumed 02/2020. This was about $40. And surprisingly I had one at a restaurant the day before that was a cheaper version of it and I preferred the cheaper one.
