Tensley Colson Canyon Vineyard Syrah 2017

$42

95 Points Parker                                           A blockbuster new Syrah from Joe Tensley, one of the Santa Barbara region's leading Syrah producers. Try this gem before it's gone. 95 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Not yet bottled, the 2017 All Blocks comes from all the vineyards Tensley works with (although it’s mostly Colson Canyon Grenache). This deep ruby/purple-colored effort offers up a terrific bouquet of smoked earth, cured meats, pepper, and both blue and black fruits. It’s voluptuous and sexy on the palate, with full-bodied richness, and is a great vintage for this cuvée." 95 Points Wine Spectator:  "Deeply structured yet rich and polished, with smoked meat, huckleberry and garrigue notes that jaunt toward big but refined tannins on the finish. Drink now through 2028." Winery Notes:  As many of our customers know, this year a long-held dream came true for us when we bought Colson Canyon Vineyard. Colson has been part of the Tensley line-up since 2000 and has been a real star for us, making Food and Wine’s Top Ten Syrah’s in America as well as twice making The Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list. This rugged vineyard always delivers some of darkest, most extracted wines we produce. After three years of drought, the 2015 vintage gave us that big extraction and then some.   Look for notes of black plums and blackberries as well as vanilla, black and white pepper and smoked meats. This Colson is drinking well now but will continue to age nicely over the next 10 to 12 years.

Nice bouquet of boysenberry, smoke, balsamic, dried herbs, mocha tertiary. Full body, handling the 15% alcohol easily. #14 WS top 100. Bacon cheeseburger slider bake.

Deep ruby red in the glass, floral nose, very fruit forward with ripe plum and refined tannins. Not sure if this will develop more with a couple more years in the bottle - it seems like it should, but was smooth and not at all tight. Lacked the spices, pepper and currant that I prefer in my bigger go-to Syrahs.

Rich and lush bursting with black cherries, pepper, rose petals, and smoked meat. Nicely balanced with a palate coating, silky finish. Fantastic.
