95 Points - new release New release of Tablas Creek's highest-scoring red rhone from Paso Robles. Limited. 94 Points Antonio Galloni: "Saturated ruby. Powerful cherry and blackberry scents are complemented by notes of licorice pastille and potpourri. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering alluringly sweet dark berry and spicecake flavors and a repeating floral note. Tightens up and becomes spicier on the finish, which clings with excellent tenacity and smooth, harmonious tannins..." 93 Points Robert Parker: "One of the few times where there's almost as much Grenache in the blend as Mourvedre (Jason commented that the Grenache was just that good), the ruby colored 2014 Esprit de Tablas is made from 40% Mourvedre, 35% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Counoise, and was aged mostly in foudre. It reveals solid aromatics of garrigue, black raspberries, pepper and violets to go with a medium to full-bodied, bright, fresh style on the palate. Again, there's some chewy tannin present, yet I suspect they'll round into form once in bottle... ...This Paso Robles outpost is owned by two Francophiles, Frenchman Francois Perrin (owners of the Rhone Valley's Chateau Beaucastel) and Robert Haas. Seeking out steep limestone ridges near the Pacific Ocean, Tablas Creek was a work in progress for its first four to five years, but it has come on like gang-busters in the 21st century. The wines are striking."

Savory with spice note on the nose just popped open the bottle. Cooked onion/ mushrooms with dark berries, dark cherry, fig and prune. On the palate: dried dark fruits, black cherry, raisin, dried fig and left licorice. Cinnamon, clove. Med to med plus tannin, med plus acidity, med finish, med body with noticeable alcohol. Had spicy soy cause ground pork with noodles with the wine. Beautiful pairing.

Black plums and perfumed florals on the nose. Blue fruits, black plums, dark cherries, boysenberries, savory meats, edgy minerals, wild purple florals, sticky medium tannins, good acidity but the finish falls a little short.

The most amazing arc of purple to red to blue fruit over the course of an hour in decanter that I've ever seen. This could easily be laid down for 8-10 years.

I was disappointed when I had this vintage about 2 years ago, flavors were sharp and conflicted. A few extra years in the bottle really served this blend well. Be patient.
