New release of Tablas Creek's highest-scoring red rhone from Paso Robles. Limited.95 Points Antonio Galloni: "A big, explosive wine, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas is warm and ample on the palate, very much in the style of the year, yet there is plenty of power lying in reserve. In 2012, Syrah plays a larger role than in both the 2010 and 2011, which is felt in the wine broad, expansive personality. This is going to be a fascinating Esprit to follow over the coming years..." 94 Points Robert Parker: "More serious and rich, the 2012 Esprit de Tablas exhibits Mourvèdre dominated aromas and flavors, with plenty of tree bark, crushed flowers, underbrush and black and blue fruit to go with medium to full-bodied richness and depth. There’s another level of mid-palate richness and tannin here, so I suspect it will benefit from short-term cellaring. Drink 2016-2022... ...This Paso Robles outpost is owned by two Francophiles, Frenchman Francois Perrin (owners of the Rhone Valley's Chateau Beaucastel) and Robert Haas. Seeking out steep limestone ridges near the Pacific Ocean, Tablas Creek was a work in progress for its first four to five years, but it has come on like gang-busters in the 21st century. The wines are striking."

Hard cherry candy that blew off after about an hour decant. It continued to improve from there as layers of red fruit piled on and carried through the finish. It fell slightly hollow in the mid palate where perhaps some additional age might help develop some complexity.

Entering a very early drinking window if you like em young. Still has many many years of life ahead.

Formerly esprit de Beaucastel, this is always a beauty. Complex and brimming with ripe red fruit, white pepper, resin, and a little meatiness. Surprisingly soft on palate, but there's a lot to enjoy there. I can't wait to revisit this...

Not my favorite vintage of this. A bit simple and straightforward, though enjoyable. May need more time.

Young. Should have decanted. Still pretty nice. Lighter than previous vintages.
