Tablas Creek Vineyard Côtes de Tablas Paso Robles Grenache Blend 2016

$54.99

95 Points - new release                          New release of Tablas Creek's highest-scoring red rhone from Paso Robles. Limited. 95 Points Antonio Galloni:  "Bright violet. Smoke-accented cherry and blackberry aromas are complemented by suggestions of candied licorice, musky rhubarb and cracked pepper. Chewy and broad on entry and then tighter in the midpalate, offering concentrated dark berry preserve and spicecake flavors and a sweet touch of candied violet. Closes on a recurring floral note, showing impressive persistence and suave, even tannins." 94 Points Robert Parker:  "The 2016 Esprit de Tablas contains more Syrah than has been the norm in recent years, a reflection of its unusually fine quality in this vintage. A blend of 46% Mourvèdre, 31% Syrah, 18% Grenache and 5% Counoise, the wine reveals youthful notes of strawberries, licorice and aromatic bark. On the palate, it's textural, medium to full-bodied and savory, with fine-grained tannins, good balance and nice depth and dimension. It will be bottled in July and seems to be a very promising rendition of Esprit de Tablas... ...This Paso Robles outpost is owned by two Francophiles, Frenchman Francois Perrin (owners of the Rhone Valley's Chateau Beaucastel) and Robert Haas. Seeking out steep limestone ridges near the Pacific Ocean, Tablas Creek was a work in progress for its first four to five years, but it has come on like gang-busters in the 21st century.  The wines are striking."

Great wine from the Tablas Creek lineup and in the low end of the price range. Vinous description below is spot on so won’t repeat here.

Redfruit Grenache up front, the Counoise supplies some floral notes and balancing acidity, and the Syrah and Mourvèdre provide structure and depth, really a lovely Cotes du Rhône-style blend.

Such a great wine. Pleases every time. Nice rip red fruits. Subtle spice. Hints of leather.
