Stolpman Vineyards L'Avion Santa Ynez Valley Roussanne 2016

$39.99

Fantastic White Blend!                                           A fantastic White Blend from California's Central Coast. Limited. 94 Points Robert Parker:  "A cellar selection that comes from two blocks of older Roussanne vines that were planted in 1996 and 2001, the 2013 L'Avion (100% barrel-fermented Roussanne) is beautiful, and a clear step up over the straight Roussanne. Giving up fabulous notes of butter peach, creme, flower, brioche and honey, it's full-bodied, concentrated and juicy, with beautiful freshness balanced by plenty of fruit. I'd drink it over the coming year or two, but it will certainly have an interesting evolution well past that. This will give many an Hermitage and St Joseph Blanc a run for their money." 92 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "Stolpman's 2016 Roussanne L'Avion is laced with apricot jam, chamomile, orange peel, hazelnut and honeysuckle. Oily yet also light on its feet, the Avion is all class. As always, the Stolpman Roussanne includes a good bit of Chardonnay, 10% in this vintage." Stolpman Vineyard’s 12 acres of Roussanne, the primary varietal of this wine, represents a significant portion of the 165 total planted acres in all of California. The proprietary name L’Avion (The Airplane in French) refers to the long narrow stretch of land where the Roussanne is grown, once used as an air strip by local ranchers. The 2011 Stolpman L’Avion is a blend of 90% Roussanne and 10% Viognier. The wine shows a rich soft mouth feel with flavors of tropical fruit and a bouquet of honeysuckleckle.
