Sine Qua Non The Gorgeous Victim Grenache 2017

$349.95

100 points - limited                     Limited new wine from cult producer Sine Qua Non. 98-100 Points Robert Parker: "The 2017 Grenache “The Gorgeous Victim” is a finished blend, set to be bottled in August. Composed of 76% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 9% Syrah, 3.8% Petit Sirah and 1.2% Viognier, and the vineyard sources are: 46% Cumulus Estate, 29% Eleven Confessions Estate, 6% Molly Aida Estate, 17% The Third Twin Estate and 2% Bien Nacido Vineyard. It was aged for around 23 months in 23% new French oak, 48% used oak (various sizes) and 29% concrete, and 46% (mainly Grenache) was fermented using whole clusters. Medium garnet-purple, this young, bombastic Grenache explodes from the glass with the most incredible perfume: red roses, cinnamon stick, lilacs and crushed black cherries with chocolate box, aniseed, garrigue and dried herbs plus gentle waves of lavender, dusty soil and smoked meats. Full-bodied with an incredibly silky texture, the decadently fruited palate features amazing freshness and vibrancy, finishing with stacks of flavor layers and a provocatively savory/chewy lift coming from the use of whole cluster. Just. Magic." "There are few greater success stories in wine than that of Sine Qua Non’s Manfred Krankl. Austrian-born and showing up penniless in Los Angeles in 1980, he went on to create one of the greatest wine estates in the world today by sheer talent and work ethic."

Awesome, but way too closed upon opening and even sitting for several hours. After a week in the fridge…awesome!

Couldn’t wait to break open from the cellar a few years early. Color - dark purple and red hues. Blueberry cherry, perfume and a stewed meat funk burst on the nose lingering with scents of leather, mint and chocolate. A big bold and smooth taste leaving a strong impression and wanting more. As it sits on the pallet the rich and creamy flavors come forward tasting of black cherry and chocolate-vanilla. A long finish of tar, hints of grapefruit, cinnamon and tannins still very much present. A beautiful wine that could age another 10 year, but will definitely try again in a few years!

+3 hour decant. An intimidating inky dark purple color. Served just above cellar temp. On the nose: perfumed with blueberry/cherry, meaty with a little funk, soil, pencil lead, leather all burst from the glass. Taste: Buckle Up......Big, pure, rich, creamy wine with black cherry, milk chocolate, tar, crushed rock, cinnamon and a grapefruit leather dry long finish. Tannins not fully resolved....had to pop one bottle young and will wait a few years for the next bottle....still, really enjoying the ride tonight!
