Silverado Vineyards SOLO Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

$99.99

95 Points WE                                      Silverado is one of Napa Valley's classic wineries, and their new small production, top-of-the-line Solo Cabernet is perhaps the finest ever produced at this venerable estate. 95 Points Wine Enthusiast:  "In a good vintage, which it was, Silverado’s Solo bottling is always worthy of aging. It would be a tragedy to open this 100% Cabernet before 2018, and even then it might be too early. Dry and full bodied, this offers complex blackberry and cassis flavors, with a grounding herbal quality suggestive of sage. The tannins are profound, making the wine tight now. Cellar Selection." 93+ Points Robert Parker: "Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the inky/purple-colored Cabernet Sauvignon Solo offers up sweet cassis fruit notes intermixed with kirsch, licorice and spice. Elegant, medium to full-bodied, pure and rich, this impressive effort reveals good acidity, vibrancy and freshness. It should drink well for 15-20 years. This is a brilliant wine, the best Cabernet Sauvignon I have ever tasted from Silverado."

I’ve loved solo in the past but the 2013 vintage is a bit flat on the finish. Flavour great...

Dusty, Bordeaux style, can almost smell the vibrant acid on the nose. On the palate, calm tannins, spicy on sides of the tongue, acidity more part of the whole rather than a singular note, quite even-keeled and level-headed, concentrated. 100 percent Cab which is rare. Stags Leap single vineyard. Shockingly I liked the Geo better....it's possible this could mature into a better wine however.

Opaque purple color with alluring cherry, black raspberry, violet, leather and vanilla aromas. On the palate it's medium-bodied, and persistent with mouth-watering acidity, and polished tannins that lend to its supple and elegant character. It shows focused black currant, blackberry, red plum and vanilla flavors with a hint of cola. Long finish.
