Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

$124.99

New vintage of Silver Oak 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet now available. The Silver Oak Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley.  Selected from vineyards throughout the appellation, it is 81% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12.6% Merlot, 3.6% Cabernet Franc, 2.4% Petit Verdot and 1.4% Malbec. Full-bodied, chewy, and muscular with an inky dark ruby/plum color, and hints of wood smoke, tobacco, cinnamon, espresso roast, and herbs, this dense, chewy, lavishly oaked wine should drink well for 10-12 years. 93 Points Wine Spectator: "Seductive singed juniper, black tea and sassafras notes lead the way, with mulled blackberry, plum and black currant fruit following along. The fine-grained finish laces everything up with mouthwatering acidity and subtle grip. Drink now through 2031." Winemaker Daniel Baron's Tasting Notes:  "Our 2015 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep, rich red color with a purple rim. A robust wine with an assertive and alluring attack, it has notes of strawberry, cigar and tea leaves with a touch of black pepper and clove. A mouthwatering mid-palate of raspberry is followed by  an  expressive  and  bright  finish. With  lush  and  silky  tannins,  this  ageworthy   wine will show beautifully through 2038 given proper cellaring conditions."

From a 5 Bordeaux grape blend: 78.9% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3.5% Cabernet Franc, 2.3% Petit Verdot & 0.3% Malbec, aged 24 months French oak, 84% new, Deep Ruby with aromas of ripe dark fruits, cedar and floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, ripe cherry and currants with notes of mushroom, herbs, pepper spice and earthy notes. Fine big sweet tannins, long finish ending with cacao, smoky oak, fruit and mineral tang. Very nice, aging well, but time will reward!

Hitting me with a big mushroom nose. Seems fruity at first, then - BAM, mushroom. Wild and unexpected. Some warm wet oak, bruised fruit, and black pepper. Big and fun and will age!

Classy and smooth. Hardly any fruit. Needs to decent. Lots of chocolate. Gorgeous with food. There are maybe choices I’d like more at this price point, but it’s a princely gift.
