Silver Oak Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$114.95

Silver Oak 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet - rare release. The Silver Oak Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is more limited in availability than the Alexander Valley.  Selected from vineyards throughout the appellation, it is 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Full-bodied, chewy, and muscular with an inky dark ruby/plum color, and hints of wood smoke, tobacco, cinnamon, espresso roast, and herbs, this dense, chewy, lavishly oaked wine should drink well for 10-12 years. Winemaker Daniel Baron's Tasting Notes: "Our 2012 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is dark ruby in color and entices you with a nose of raspberry, cassis and loose pipe tobacco. This full-bodied wine has an assertively silky structure and is notably spicy on the palate. Flavors of sage and blackberry mark the wine’s entry. The strong acidity in the mid-palate is followed by a lingering finish. Given proper cellaring, this wine will provide drinking pleasure through 2038."

Slightly underwhelming. Fun to try and have, but bitter oak nuance took over, fruit was tired, and I didn't crave another glass.. Coravin'd my 2010 Erba Cabernet and for $20 cheaper, WAY better. A wine that I wouldn't really pay for, but I'm not gonna say no to a glass. I wish they'd try and get back to the old days and make a wine like they used to. Maybe they will one day.

Nice bouquet. This may need to age more. 2012 vintage consumed in May 2018.

Excellent, elegant, aromatic! Well balanced with a fruity bouquet. Smooth and supple gave me hints of cherries, vanilla, berries and of course Oak with a beautiful long finish.

Enjoyed this delicious 2012 Cab on Easter Sunday which was also my birthday. I have been saving this once since my first visit to Silver Oak in Napa, which also led to the first legit case of wine I ever bought.

Deep ruby hue. Rim variation and noticeable extraction. Nose offers black licorice, plum sauce, blackberry jam, with nutmeg, allspice, anise, leather, and cedar notes on the palate, opens with fruit, finishes with baking spices. Soft, melt-in-your-mouth tannins. Vintage 2012. ABV 14.4%.
