Shafer Vineyards One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

$99.95

new release                                       Limited new Cabernet Sauvignon release from Shafer! 95 Points James Suckling: "This has a deliciously ripe and perfumed nose of blueberries, cloves, potpourri and gravel. It’s full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and fresh acidity. Creamy and elegant with a driven, focused finish. Cooler and more refined at the end. 94 Points Wine Enthusiast: " The name signifying a generation and a half of Shafers (Doug and his late father, John), this is a powerfully built, robust and rounded wine. Sage and violet aromas lead to a strong, sturdy core of tannin, oak and muscle, developed with sweet tobacco, cassis and cola." 94 Points Jeb Dunnuck:  "The Shafer 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is brilliant, and up with the crème de la crème at the price point. Lots of cassis, graphite, unsmoked tobacco, new leather, and cedar notes all give way to a medium to full-bodied, elegant, beautifully balanced 2018. As with all these 2018s, it shows the pure, elegant style of the vintage and is going to age gracefully." 94 Points Wine Spectator: "Quite lush in feel, with creamy waves of plum sauce, melted black licorice, açaí berry reduction and sweet toast rolling through, laced with subtle alder and bay leaf notes and ending with a sanguine hint amid the fruit. The buried structure will carry this in the cellar as well." Robert Parker: "...the Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is, for my money, one of the best wines in Napa Valley in its price range...Year in year out, this is one of the superstar wineries, not only in Napa Valley and all of California, but in the entire world. It’s the product of visionary John Shafer, who started in 1978 after a successful corporate career. He had the foresight and visionary genius to believe in the microclimates and soils of Stags Leap of the southern Napa Valley. When his son Doug came on board with their brilliant winemaker and Mr. Everything, Elias Fernandez, things soared in quality and diversity. Today, this is a winery that does everything about as perfect as can be. They have kept their feet, heads and egos grounded, and continue to kick proverbial ass with every vintage. They made some of the very finest, possibly the Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage in 2011, and in 2012 and 2013, they have crafted one profound wine after another."

Dark berries, dark cocoa, lavender, soil. A bit hot. Tannins are in check for being so young. Very nice!

Cran-grape-blackberry sensibility with dark roast coffee undertones, milk chocolate, carnation, caramel, dried parsley, carrot purée. Palate is coffee coated black currant, chicory, dried blackberry, bramble, cedar, tight and green oak notes, violet, baseball glove, tart cherry, tart raspberry and raspberry reduction. Rich offering here to satisfy the lofty spirit, but needs time to coalesce. Pair with warm fires. #shafer #napa #napavalley #shaferonepointfive #onepointfive #stagsleapdistrict #shafervineyards #shafercabernet #shafercab #cab #cabernetsauvignon #stagsleapnapa

Surprisingly rich and elegant, blueberry pie and fine espresso notes, chocolate truffles. I noted some grilled meat tones that made me think of Syrah. Very satisfying after a short decant from 375.

Last nights wine we opened was the 2018 Shafer One Point Five Stags Leap District Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This vintage is a blend of 98% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Malbec. On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, plum, black currant, sweet tobacco, rose petals, mint and rich earth. On the palate are wonderful notes of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, chocolate, licorice, lavender, spice, cedar and earth. This wine is medium to full bodied with a silky smooth mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + smooth round tannins that moves wonderfully into a long dark fruit earthy finish. The weekend is moving swimmingly forward with wonderful friends and loving family. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and please stay safe and healthy. Nostrovia!

Nose: tar, blackberry, booze, graphite, dark raspberry, some kind of herbal tea, clay, minerals. Smells subtle and delicious. Taste: HUGE but subtle, tasty. Blackberry, tobacco and chicory. Lots of clay. Very smooth. I really like this. Rasberry Leaf. Nettle. Cassis. Some anise. Currant. Some coffee; bitter chocolate. Bitter jelly. Best wine I’ve had in a while. 94.

Shafer One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon 2018: Full-bodied. Balanced structure. Rich lush flavors. Black fruits. Vanilla. Tobacco. Oak. Smooth satisfying finish. No introduction needed. This was an amazing bottle of wine and the perfect complement to my bone-in filet mignon during my quick trip to Charlotte, NC. It was complex; it was powerful; it was outstanding and I cannot stop talking/thinking about it. Quintessential Napa, this is a remarkable wine on all fronts! Cheers

Pretty darn good. Drank it a little too fast…should have let it get some air for an hour or so first. Would buy again ~$100/bottle

2018 vintage. Pretty, delicate and balanced. Missing the back-end structure to vault it over the top but, then again, the Shafer style is not exactly big and bold.

Wonderful full-bodied and complex wine that accompanied our bone in filet mignon steaks at the Flagler Steakhouse in Palm Beach.
