Shafer Vineyards One Point Five Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$89.99

Limited new Cabernet Sauvignon release from Shafer! 93 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous):  " The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five brings together striking aromatic nuance along with the textural richness that is such a signature of this wine. Lavender, rose petal, dark red and bluish fruits and mint are laced together in a refreshing, vibrant Cabernet Sauvignon that delivers the goods." Robert Parker: "...the Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is, for my money, is one of the best wines in Napa Valley in its price range...Year in year out, this is one of the superstar wineries, not only in Napa Valley and all of California, but in the entire world. It’s the product of visionary John Shafer, who started in 1978 after a successful corporate career. He had the foresight and visionary genius to believe in the microclimates and soils of Stags Leap of the southern Napa Valley. When his son Doug came on board with their brilliant winemaker and Mr. Everything, Elias Fernandez, things soared in quality and diversity. Today, this is a winery that does everything about as perfect as can be. They have kept their feet, heads and egos grounded, and continue to kick proverbial ass with every vintage. They made some of the very finest, possibly the Cabernet Sauvignon of the vintage in 2011, and in 2012 and 2013, they have crafted one profound wine after another."

Deep ruby and purple hues with magenta rim variation. Moderate extraction and heavy tearing. Nose offers sweet tobacco, cigar box, oak, cedar, leather, baking spices and candied black fruit. Soft and smooth tannins on the palate; palate is otherwise consistent with the nose. Lingering finish. ABV 15.3%. Vintage 2014. Happy Valentine’s Day to my Delectable friends! #stagsleapdistrict #napavalley #napavalleywine #shafer #shaferwine #onepointfiveshafer #californiacab #cabernetsauvignon

On the nose, slightly sweet dark fruits, burnt ambers, dark soil and decayed darks florals. One the palate, ruby fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, strawberries and raspberries. The body is lean with grippy, silty, dark tannins, dark chocolate, mocha powder, wood shavings, dry stems, fresh red florals, cola, leathery, light touch of vanilla, good acidity with a dry finish. Don't open for 8-10 years. Photo tour of; the estate building & vines, Winemaker Elias Fernandez with Owner Doug Shafer, vineyard staff harvesting and their tasting area.

A terrific example of the vintage, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five delivers serious depth and intensity, but with relatively soft tannins for the year. Inky blue and purplish fruit, spices, mint and lavender flesh out in the glass. Succulent and fleshy, the One Point Five offers more near and medium-term accessibility than most 2013s. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous)

Meh. Typical jammy flabby unbalanced cali cab. It’s not bad. But crazy it sells for $100+ per btl. It was a gift.
