Shafer Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot 2014

$59.99

Shafer makes one of California's finest Merlots.  This was another in a string of warm, sun-soaked vintages from spring through early autumn. The consistency of daytime heat and evening coolness created a model growing season in which we harvested fruit with abundant color and concentration, along with enticing, rich aromatics. 92 Points Robert Parker: "Shafer also makes one of the better Merlots. The 2014 Merlot includes 8% Cabernet Sauvignon and is a beauty. Mocha and chocolaty notes intermixed with red cherry, plum and blacker fruits jump from the glass of this perfumed and fragrant style of Merlot. It is medium to full-bodied, exceptionally pure and rich and should drink beautifully over the next 10-12 years of life."

This will shine years from now...don't make the mistake and open it like we did. Way too young right now.

More savory than I remember this wine. Super wide bandwidth of flavor. Only 78% Merlot with a balance of Malbec and Cabernet

Excellent. Great flavors. Opened nicely. Was a little effervescent on opening and a bit tanic. Could have aged more. Would definitely get again

Deep Magenta color. Blackberries, tart cherry, pomegranate and baking spices. A bit young to drink but I am visiting Shafer vineyards this Thursday so couldn’t resist giving myself a head start.

A bit more sour than I expected, but quite easy to drink as a 15.3% alcohol content. Probably would say it's a medium-bodied wine.

This wine was murdered tonight. This one has a TON of youthful black fruit, bramble, wildflower, chocolate. The makings of a really nice Merlot are all here, but are just very tight. After an hour of being in the glass, this one really did perform quite a bit better than it did initially after it was "Coravinned." Sweeter, youthful fruit on the front. Acidic finish, tannin very present. Stiff oaked tannic finish. Very enjoyable. Wish I had a case of this. At the price paid, I should have bought a case, but unfortunately snoozed.
