Shafer Vineyards Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2014

$54.99

Shafer's Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay is one of California's finest examples of this varietal - don't miss it while it's available. 93 Points Robert Parker:  "First, their non-malolactic 2014 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch comes from a cool-climate vineyard in Carneros. This is aged in 75% oak casks and 25% stainless steel, which seems to be the perfect marriage for showcasing this wine’s rich fruit. The wine has loads of tangerine oil, citrus blossom, a hint of apples and orange marmalade. The oak is subtle, the wine medium to full-bodied, pure and rich. (This is the official tasting note, but I shared two bottles with some friends of mine at the casual Market restaurant in St. Helena, and it was a huge hit.)" “…one of the best non-malolactic, barrel-fermented Chardonnays in California …” The Wine Advocate

Tasted ‘13 & ‘14 together. Wine bears the vineyard named to honor the Red-shouldered Hawks and other birds of prey that play a vital role in sustainable farming practices. Bright yellow with aromas of tropical fruits and sweet floral scents. Aged for 14 months, 75% in new French oak and 25% in stainless. On the palate sweet melon, pineapple and peach flavors and citrus notes, subtle yet complex and well balanced. Lingering finish, savory, ending with mineral tones and toasty oak. Consistent. Outstanding!

Haven't had this in years. I always remember this being so over-the-top. Not this 2014. When you need a California Chardonnay on the fly. -at Nick's Fishmarket, Maui

Wow! One of smoothest California Chards with silky, luscious mouthfeel and a bouquet of aromas that are balanced as well as electric and oh so satisfying. A truly stunning wine.

An excellent Chardonnay. Rich, fruity and a touch of oaky flavor.

2014 in 2022. Aromas of burnt caramel popcorn and of course vanilla. Sharply smooth with lots of ML, surprised how much I love this as I don’t usually love super oaky Chard. Funky, doesn’t taste like any I’ve ever had, lemon curd shining through.

Very enjoyable. Not sure it’s any better than the lynmar we drink. Definitely all the notes we enjoy though.
