A classic, powerful Cabernet from Sequoia Grove and Napa Valley's famed Rutherford Bench! Sequoia Grove is one of those great small family-run wineries in the prime Cabernet area of Napa Valley that has managed to remain under the radar. One of the best Cabs we've tasted in this price range, its full of the big tannins and a healthy dose of American Oak that Silver Oak fans love. The grapes come from well-regarded vineyards in the Napa Valley and Sequoia Grove's own estate vineyards in Rutherford. 92 Points James Suckling: "This classically rich Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is dark in color with aromas of bright black cherry and blackberry, followed by baking spices and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, the Sequoia Grove 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon offers intense flavors of blackberry with round and smooth tannins, with subtle notes of toasted vanilla." 91 Points Robert Parker: "A barrel sample blended of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2018 Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon is deep purple-black in color and features open-knit notions of crushed blueberries, black cherries and red and black currants with suggestions of pencil shavings and tilled soil. Medium to full bodied, the palate gives a great concentration of earth-laced black fruits with a pleasantly chewy finish."

Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and floral spice. On the palate flavors of blackberry, blueberry and dark cherry with meaty spice. Full-body, balanced acidity, fine tannins ending with tobacco, cacao and espresso notes on the long finish. More time will benefit. Good value.

Good cab. Not as smooth as Quilt or Hess Allomi.

A bit of a disappointing vintage of this Napa Cabernet. (2017 & 2018 were outstanding!) Dark ruby color. Aromas and flavors of black cherry, vanilla (lots of it), blackberry, blueberry, cola, caramel and dark chocolate. Medium-plus bodied with velvety tannins and a long oaky finish. A bit hot and a touch disjointed. Touch of sharpness on the finish. A bit better after a long decant.

Very good moderate priced Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa. Drank in January 2023. Some more aging will increase the overall taste. Pairs well with red meat and other foods.

NOSE: raspberry, a little coffee and toffee, spices, wet stone. Smells more like Bordeaux than what I am used to from Napa. TASTE: similar to the nose … black raspberry, now also cassis, coffee, some oak … also now mint and similar herbs. Really quite Bordeaux-like, plus a dash more oak (I wish it were less). Excellent. 92.
