Sequoia Grove Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$39.99

A classic, powerful Cabernet fom Napa Valley's famed Rutherford Bench! Seqouia Grove is one of those great small family-run wineries in the prime Cabernet area of Napa Valley that has managed to remain under the radar. One of the best Cabs we've tasted in this price range, its full of the big tannins and a healthy dose of American Oak that Silver Oak fans love. The grapes come from well-regarded vineyards in the Napa Valley and Seqouia Grove's own estate vineyards in Rutherford. 93 Points Wine Enthusiast: "This is a dark, big, deeply flavored Cabernet whose tannic structure strongly suggests mid- to long-term aging. Bone dry, it has flashy flavors of black currants, dark chocolate and cedar. Very fine. Best 2013–2018 if not longer in a proper cellar."

Here is my Friday's Cabernet fix. Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim. Gorgeous fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, figs, cloves, earth, mint, oak, vanilla, leather, eucalyptus, spices, chocolates, tobacco, beef jerky and peppercorn. Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs. Dry and fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, earth, leather, beef jerky, vegetables and peppercorn. Long finish with smooth tannins and black pepper. A Great Napa Cabernet. Very typical and enjoyable by itself or with food. Nicely balanced and complex, with nice acidity to make it interesting. Although it is very pleasant now, it is still young, and would be much better in 2 to 5 years. Nicely paired with a nice piece of fillet mingon and grilled vegetables. This one is just delicious. 14.2% alcohol by volume.

Deep Ruby with aromas of dark fruits and spice. On the palate blackberry, plum and dark cherry with complex spice. Full-body wine showed balanced acidity and approachable tannins with tobacco, cacao and espresso noted on the lingering finish. More time will benefit. Good value.

This gorgeous blend of several red grapes, primarily Cabernet, is at or near the top of my list of all time favorites. It’s big, bold, elegant, gripping, complex, structured, and classy. Very underpriced at $37.

Delicious. Softer tannins for a cab. Wasn't expecting that.

Cherry overload on the nose and palette. Nice mouthfeel and soft texture. As my bud @Martin G Rivard would say “winner, winner, chicken dinner.”
