Seghesio Family Vineyards Sonoma County Zinfandel 2015

$23.99

93 Points WS                                      Always one of the favorite California Zins we carry. 93 Points Wine Spectator: "Plump and luscious, this is jam-packed with fruit. Lively blackberry, pepper and other spice box aromas lead to ripe and rich flavors of black raspberry, caramel and licorice. There are more complex Zinfandels, but few that are more enjoyable to drink. Drink now through 2022." Wine Enthusiast: "You could use this as a teaching tool for classic Sonoma County Zinfandel. It's full-bodied, dry and spicy, with briary flavors of wild berries, mocha, tobacco, leather and exotic spices. More importantly, it's absolutely delicious. The grapes come from Seghesio's best vineyards in the Alexander and Dry Creek valleys. An astonishing value."

Deep purple in color with a wide purplish rim. Fruity nose of blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, peppercorn and pencil lead. Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs. Dry and extremely fruity on the palate with sweet cherries, plums, black currants, coffee, oak, cloves, light alcohol, earth, spices, peppercorn, tobacco and herbs. Medium plus on the finish with soft tannins and tangy cranberries. This Sonoma Zinfandel is always enjoyable. Drinking nicely now and will be better in the next few years. Spicy and bold with mild complexity. Still very fruity, and needs a few years in the bottle to chill out. Good right out of the bottle and better as it opens up. 14.8% alcohol by volume. 89 points. $20.

Might be the first Zinfandel I didn't dislike and it is definitely the first that smelled like peach yogurt to me.

Sensible everyday drinking Zinfandel. Paired well with a supreme pizza. Much better wines offered by this winery. Not bad for an entry level wine.

Packed with fruit but also acidity and tannins to balance it. Perfect with a grilled ribeye and a mushroom/wine reduction sauce. A California classic zin.

Dark purple color, taste of blackberry and currants, solid tasting, but not memorable.
