Brand new boutique Cabernet release from Schramsberg from their Estate property on Napa's Diamond Mountain. J. Davies 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% estate grown, produced, and bottled by Schramsbreg Vineyards. Two historic vineyards on the Diamond Mountain District property have been tested over a decade for their red wine potential. Winemaker Hugh Davies and Craig Roemer have been perfecting this vineyard for over 10 years and have produced an intensely fruity, beatifully balanced 2008 vintage. 93 Points Robert Parker: "Made from essentially the same blend, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is slightly more exotic with evolved aromas of white flowers, creme de cassis, licorice and graphite. This perfumed, medium to full-bodied wine possesses both power and elegance (as the finest Napa Cabernets often do). It should drink well for another 12-15 years. These Cabernet Sauvignons are made by J. Davies, the proprietor of Schramsberg."

Opening a bottle of the 2011, which is a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Malbec and aged for 24 months on French oak, I noticed a dark purple, almost inky color with aromas of fresh ripe red and blue fruit. The palate shows the fruit nicely with plum, blueberry and black cherry flavors, a touch jammy, ripe round tannins, touch of spice with smoky cacao and earthy minerality. Decanting this young Cabernet will benefit, however will last a decade in your cellar.

Still wine from the Schramsburg crew. Very lush and soft. The 14% Malbec really takes the tannic edge out of it which is a little bit of a bummer for me. Fairly complex with some nice spice.

Dark perfumed aromas of blueberry jam combine with cocoa, vanilla cream, and tobacco. The palate is bold, complex and fruitful. Loganberry and blackberry intermingle with dark chocolate, and are seamlessly brought together with perceptible tannins that sustain a long and youthful finish. Varietal Composition: 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec Barrel Aging: 24 months in French oak, 90% new

Smooth. Nice diamond Mtn cab with lovely vanilla cherry fruit tones. Still tight so will be fun to see how this evolves in the coming years.
