Schrader Cellars RBS Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$299.99

Limited new release from Schrader Cellars. 98 Points Robert Parker: "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard RBS, which is also from Clone 337 but from different blocks on the Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard, saw oak with 90% new Darnajou and 10% new Taransaud. This wine seems slightly more expansive, shares the black ruby/purple color with all of it siblings, and has a boatload of crème de cassis, incense, licorice, graphite and vanilla along with plenty of spice box and forest floor. This is a killer, full-bodied, super-duper, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon to drink over the next 20 years... ...The Schraders, working with well-known winemaking consultant Thomas Rivers Brown, continue to farm and produce some of the world’s greatest Cabernet Sauvignons from three fabulous Beckstoffer-owned vineyards: the To Kalon Vineyard in Oakville, the Georges III Vineyard in Rutherford and the Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena. To Kalon is gravelly, eluvial, loamy soils; Georges III Vineyard is an old creek bed; and Las Piedras Vineyard in St. Helena is planted on old river rock and gravelly loam. All of these blocks utilized for Schrader’s wines encompass over 25+ acres and are custom-farmed – as Fred Schrader likes to say, essentially “virtual vineyards,” even though they’re not owned by the Schraders. Their initial focus, which has proven so successful, is essentially a microscopic study of different clones planted in different blocks with exactly the same philosophy of viticulture, harvesting, winemaking, élevage and bottling. Production of all the 2012s, which was a slightly more generous and later harvest than 2013 with bigger berries, ranges from 200 cases for the Old Sparky and Georges III, to 520 for the CCS, 420 for the T6, 625 for the RBS, 370 for the Schrader, 620 for the LPV and 100 cases for the newest baby, the Colesworthy, which is a selection of the best barrels of their Las Piedras offering. Some of the other characteristics of these wines are that they all spend about 20 months in barrel, but the percentages of new Darnajou and new Taransaud varied from cuvée to cuvée, although the CCS is 100% new Darnajou, as are the Old Sparky and the Colesworthy. Finished alcohol on the 2012s is in line with other vintages, at 14.4%-14.6%. And in 2013, virtually identical numbers of 14.4%-14.6% were achieved. The consistency and the analytical aspects of the wines is mirrored in the incredible quality that Schrader has produced.

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. This is a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley. Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with a pretty nose. Showing black fruits with cedar, light vanilla, leather, spices, earth, cola, chocolates, tobacco, coffee, pencil lead and peppercorn. Fruit forward, rich and extracted. Spicy and interesting. A great wine from a great vintage, and a great Vineyard. What a combination. Tasty and tangy. Just Delicious. Robert Parker 98 points. Needed 3 hours to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle too. Will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Aged in 100% new oak barrels for 20 months. 14.5% alcohol by volume. 95 points. $400.

Lots of chocolate, mocha, blackberries. Sort of thick. Extremely dark. Is this made by taking wine and simmering it down a little?? Sort of delicious though.

Seriously, it was that good. Everything was in perfect harmony. Medley of red, blue and black fruits...rich and ripe without being too much. Spiced cocoa, nutmeg and graphite lead off the front palate before a velvet like texture hits the middle showing all the fruit spectrum in baked pie form. Lengthy and structured finish. A true stunner from @Keith Fisher

Again to all thanks for your understanding and this was second bottle with friends - I like Schrader and love the RBS - wine may not fix your problem but it does give you a nice way to express your love for someone or something

Another example of a young Napa cab that is open for business and shouting delicious from the rooftop. In the past I've tasted young at the winery and then I let it sit in my cellar for a good long time. My head is turning and I'm coming around to the joys of youth. Like the 2013 Lokoya I had recently this was singing. Smooth entry, deep dark expressive fruit, graphite, long beautiful finish. Appreciated @Michael Meyer

I was disappointed at first but it definitely developed over the course of the meal. We decanted an hour prior to dinner but should have decanted three hours prior. It is an absolute rock star which needed to spread it's wings in order to be enjoyed. It's a rockstar!

This is so nugget worthy, Double shift for 10 days straight has brought me to my knees,. The buffalo sauce seems to over power the wine, I suggest the habanero ranch as the better alternative, bbq sauce is just for kids

Shamelessly robbing the cradle, this is like a barrel sample but just fantastic.
