Schrader Cellars Boars' View The Coast Pinot Noir 2012

$125

95 points                                  95 Points Robert Parker: "For the 2012 Pinot Noir The Coast, the winemaking team went for muscle, structure and density with the Calera, Mt. Eden and Swan clones. It exhibits a dense ruby/purple-tinged color as well as a sweet bouquet of raspberries, black cherries, earth and spring flowers. Juicy and succulent with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and terrific acids buttressing and giving delineation to this complex Pinot, it will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age, will hit its peak in 5-10 years, and last for 12-15. This is a heck-of-a debut offering from Carol and Fred Schrader... ...This project, ten years in the making, is owned by Carol and Fred Schrader (famous for their Napa Valley Cabernets), who purchased 40 acres on the second ridge line in from the Pacific Ocean. Their debut vintage is these 2012s. The vineyard manager is Ulises Valdez and the winemaker, who also produces the Schrader Beckstoffer Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa, is Thomas Rivers Brown."

WNH event number 3...new world Pinot. Such a treat to experience the many different variations of Pinot! Fantastic stuff and drinking superbly. This has all the check marks for textbook Cali Pinot. The red and black fruits lean toward the overripe side which adds some richness. A very woodsy/cedar note on the mid palate, with a cherry liqueur like finish. Thanks for bringing, @Joe Lucca .

This is my fourth bottle of the '12 Boar's View and it is finally (!) rounding out and becoming a worthy TRB wine. No longer just a juicy fruit bomb that overpowers. It was very full bodied and lush with notes of cola, black cherry and underbrush. Opening well now and it will get better for years. I'd say this is a 15 year PN.

Pre party for Rolling Stones in SD. Very primary now but not hot. Just a lot of fruit and not as much round edges. Bigger style Pinot but really does it well. I'd hold or decant right now. Should develop superbly.

Shedding some weight but still big and bold, sweet dark fruit profile. Decant.

True to the Schrader brand- big upfront fruit. Needs time to find its balance but will not disappoint collectors of Thomas Browns' wines.

At this stage the herbaceous qualities of this Pinot seem at least as strong as the fruit --I get lots of chervil, tarragon, nettle, and behind this, raspberry, blackberry , Rainier cherry. Firm tannin. All in balance with medium-plus acidity. Complex. Should resolve very nicely indeed and look forward to revisiting this wine in 5-7 years.

I waited a few years since the last bottle, but I don’t think it has improved much. Very dark and extracted, but not much fruit at all. Plenty of structure with some pleasant spices. Maybe my expectations were just all wrong for what this bottle would be.

The nose of Syrah and the subtly of Pinot. Really nice
