Rare new release from cult producer Saxum. 96 Points Robert Parker:  "I tasted a representative blend of the 2016 G2 Vineyard, a wine that's still youthfully primary, revealing spicy aromas of cherries, plums and wild berries. On the palate, it's full-bodied, bright and taut, with fine-grained but distinctly savory tannins that are already nicely integrated into its generous core of fruit. The blend contains 42% Grenache, 35% Mataro, fully 20% Tannat and 3% Zinfandel, and Smith observes that he was very careful in fermenting the Tannat to avoid extracting excessive structure... ...Needing no introduction for anyone that’s followed the Wine Advocate or the wine scene in Paso Robles for any time in the past decade, Heather and Justin Smith’s Saxum Vineyards continues to fashion sensational, world-class wines from a number of top sites on the west side of Paso Robles."

First time trying Sauxums G2., Not bad 2014 was Sauxm's first vintage of the G2 vineyard. The 2016 G2 Vineyard is a blend of 47% Grenache, 40% Mataro and 13% Tannat. It was made with 6% whole cluster and aged 19 months in several vessels, including 50% foudres and 30% new oak.
