Saxon-Brown Durell Vineyard Hayfield Block Pinot Noir 2007

$48

This a fantastic new "under the radar" Pinot Noir sourced from the Durell Vineyard made famous by Kistler.  One of those rare ‘rock star’ vineyards, Durell is coveted for its small clusters of deeplyconcentrated fruit. Saxon Brown is fortunate to be one of only a few wineries with access to the tiny Hayfield Block, from which they produce this elegant and age worthy Pinot Noir.  Only 260 cases produced - extremely limited. This Pinot Noir exhibits exceptional color. Aromas of sweet black cherry, blackberry, cinnamon and clove spice. Slightly more earthy than our Parmelee-Hill Pinot with a touch of chanterelle mushroom. A rich mouthfeel with long tannins and a lingering sweet, supple finish. This is a powerful yet seductive wine.

Another outstanding Pinot from wine maker Jeff Gaffner (Black Kite).A fairly earthy nose with a bit of dark fruit. On the palette it's all plum, ripe plum, fragrant, exuberant with earthy tannins and a bit of aromatic wood, and fennel seed. It's super good and drinking very well. It is big and broad for a Pinot yet has the lightness and vitality of the grape. I hope to have it again.

Awesome earthy bright bouquets of violets. Meaty Pinot with a woody deep cherry risk flavor mild tannins. Softens as it opens. Really nice for Sonoma coast. Sturdy seafood wine with a touch at 62F optimally. 2007 drink now! We had it with a turkey meatloaf and acorn squash. Perfect. 90 points
