98 points - rare release Extremely limited opportunity on one of the most sought-after Champagnes in the world. 100 Points Wine Enthusiast: "The 35th and most recent vintage of Salon since the house was founded in 1905 is memorable and magnificent. Made only from Chardonnay grown in the Grand Cru village of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, it combines intense minerality, a crisp textured core and the beginnings of maturity. The depths of this wine, with its layers of fruit and steeliness, are superb. Even after 12 years, it still needs to age further. Drink from 2018." 99 Points James Suckling: "A subtle, intense champagne that shows complex character of lilac, mineral, sliced lemon, apple and white pepper. It is full-bodied and dense but racy and agile with a lightness and freshness. It has a gloriously long finish. It changes every moment in the glass. It has such clarity. It’s magnificent to drink now, but shows great texture and structure for aging. Best since 1982." Only 62,000 bottles of this, the 40th vintage of Salon's Blanc de Blancs were made. This exceptional vintage bottling comes from a one-hectare parcel owned by Salon called "Salon's garden," along with 19 other smaller parcels in Mesnil-sur-Oger that were chosen by Aimé Salon back at the beginning of the 20th century. It was cellared in bottle for at least 10 years.

A lunch for the folks who have been extremely generous and influential in my wine journey. Salon always needs 20 + years from vintage. As expected no where near maturity.A shy nose of apple , pear and flint. On the palate more round than linear. Acidity is very good but not as assertive as some previous vintages .A coiled spring.

A gorgeous nose. Yellow flowers, corn, a super light toast. On the palate seamless and delicious and polished. A hint of oyster shells and limestone. This is in a superb place right now

A slight light whiff of coffee on the nose with corn and lemon oil. A sweetish core. Surprisingly under but great balance and purity. Surprisingly pretty and gentle.

A beautiful fresh nose. Limestone, white flowers, hints of the seashore. A clean berry fruit flavor, rounded and achingly gentle but real presence behind it all. Subtle but delicious.

Very present and correct. Very clear fruit but underlying acidity. Lovely stuff.

This is really tightly coiled. Lemon (verbena?), steeliness, lime and chalk. Real purity and clarity on the palate but super tightly wound. This needs time but there’s quality there.
