A stone's throw from Sea Smoke and other area cult Pinot Noir producers, the Rusack Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir showcases all that is great about this hot new California region: A rich, fleshy and flashy wine that possesses layers of vivid blueberry, black cherry and spicy, peppery nuances that gain an added measure of complexity, with a pretty overlay of toasty oak. For this wine being a 2014 vintage, it lacks depth and a complexity that I’m used to coming from Rusack. Very light wine throughout hints of black cherry but very shuttle.
