Roederer Estate L'Ermitage Brut Anderson Valley Chardonnay Pinot Noir 2012

$59.99

97 points - new release                                    Roederer Estate's special tête de cuvée, L'Ermitage, is a sparkling wine made only in exceptional years from pre-selected, estate-grown grapes. Carrying on the tradition of Champagne Louis Roederer in France, Roederer Estate produces its sparkling wines in the traditional French methode and adds special oak-aged reserve wines to each blend. L'Ermitage debuted with the 1989 vintage and is designed to be California's version of Roederer's "Cristal." Limited. 95 Points Wine Enthusiast "#2 Wine of 2018": "Dry and nicely mature, this complex wine is always among California’s best bubblies. It combines great balance, tiny bubbles and some very interesting flavors that make it as appealing as a well-cellared white Burgundy at its peak. Hints of toast, butter and almond fill the aroma, and lemon, crisp apple and baking spices fill the palate. It has lively acidity that’s softened by a good sense of body." Wine & Spirits "BEST OF THE YEAR":  "Roederer Estate's Brut is reliably open and delicious, this year's cuvée bursting with concentrated apple flavor. It's clean and dry with a long delicate finish enhanced by the barrel-aged reserve wines that winemaker Arnaud Weyrich blends in. Its bold flavors and vinous texture would be great with cracked crab."

B50!! Crisp, fresh, elegant, long finish. Greatest American sparkler. Matches any champagne in this price range. Delicious. Wine Spectator 95 points rating seems reasonable (Tim Fish).

Quite amazing. All kinds of complexity, with lemon, ginger, yeast, and caramel.

It’s a bit acidic for my liking and a bit yeasty when you first open it. I feel like this could age even though a lot of experts say to drink it now.

An interesting Chardonnay and Pinot Noir blend. Complex flavors that didn’t come across as a brut sparkling wine to me. #5 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2019.
