Rochioli Russian River Valley Chardonnay 2010

$58

Rare Chardonnay release from Russian River Valley cult producer Rochioli. 92 Points Wine Spectator:  "Full-bodied, rich and layered, with honeysuckle, smoke, roasted fig and melon flavors that are pure, focused, subtle and persistent. Drink now through 2018. 1,647 cases made." 91 Points Robert Parker: “The 2010 Chardonnay Estate is a gorgeous wine. Pears, flowers, spices and almonds are some of the notes that flow from this refined, textured Chardonnay. This is a very pretty entry-level wine from Tom Rochioli that captures the essence of the house style. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016... I came away deeply impressed by the wines I tasted with Tom Rochioli. The 2010 Chardonnays are absolutely gorgeous. The cold, late-harvest provides a wonderful balance to the inherent richness that is typically present in the wines." This wine is a fine example of the unique characteristics from the Rochioli property and the Russian River Valley. Aromas of ripe apple, tropical fruit, hazelnut and a touch of spice combine with the rich apple flavors and crisp acidity. A blend from different vineyard sites: 65% Mid 40, 35% River Block

July 4th Friday was a total blowout! Killer bottles one after another. Here are just a few of the bottles we all enjoyed! Drinking at its peak. Soft butterscotch notes but not very candied/sweet. Lemon oil, honeysuckle, and honey roasted cashews. Very rich and textured on the palate. Really nice.

Nutty, citrusy, rich. Keeps a nice freshness without feeling too heavy.

Fairly small production, big mystique with the "waiting list" and selling out. (Find it at Beltramo's.) Nose a little butter, maybe pear/flower. Taste intense but dry, rich, oaky, with a buttery/vanilla finish. Definitely refined, but perhaps too buttery on this own. But S&M loved it. Interestingly, she thought it less buttery than the burgundy, while I thought it more.
