Roar Sierra Mar Vineyard Pinot Noir 2014

$55

ROAR makes some of the best and hardest to get new Pinot Noirs in California.  The Sierra Mar Vineyard is a rare Pinot sold out at the winery. previous vintage 92 Points Robert Parker: "A brilliant Pinot Noir that has a core of sweet fruit that’s balanced out by savory, mineral-like qualities, the 2011 Sierra Mar Vineyard has a medium-bodied mouthfeel, plenty of texture and juicy acidity. Slightly plump and upfront, this friendly beauty is hard to resist, and I see no reason to either. Enjoy bottles over the coming 5-6 years. Drink now-2019."  ...A top producer in the Santa Lucia Highlands, Roar is run by Gary and Rosella Franscioni, with the wines now made by Scott Shapley as of the 2013 vintage (they were previously made by Ed Kurtzman). This is fantastic lineup of Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs. Roar is owned by Gary & Rosella Franscioni, who planted and own the famed Rosella's Vineyard, Gary's Vineyard and Pisoni Vineyard in California's Central Coast.

I love the fruit the comes from SLH and Gary does a great job with this offering. Very complex nose-omnidirectional comes to mind. Red beets, cinnamon sticks and dried berries on the nose. Savory on entry, slight spice on the mid palate with blackberry, and a Montreal steak season flavor on the back of the palate. Extremely layered. Slight underbrush finish that's persistent.

Always a treat to drink. Like their area wines more than the more expensive Gary, Roseanne & Pisoni bottling. At Little Hen, Haddonfield
