New release ROAR makes some of the best and hardest to get new Pinot Noirs in California. previous vintage 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Moving to the Pinot Noirs, the base ROAR Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands is smoking good, with a beautiful, Chambolle-like perfume of redcurrants, spring flowers, spice, and hints of tea and forest floor. Medium-bodied, it has a supple, elegant texture, a more focused, savory mouthfeel, fine tannins, and a great finish. It's a classic, balanced, incredibly impressive Pinot Noir to drink over the coming 7-8 years, and I suspect it will evolve even longer." ROAR is owned by Gary & Rosella Franscioni, who planted and own the famed Rosella's Vineyard, Gary's Vineyard and Pisoni Vineyard in California's Central Coast. The Franscionis started ROAR Wines with the knowledge that Pinot Noir had a shining future in the Santa Lucia Highlands, and a dream that their farming know-how would translate amazing grapes into amazing wines. Rosella’s Vineyard was planted on their home ranch in 1996, followed by Garys’ Vineyard in 1997 in partnership with the Pisoni family. The first vintage of ROAR was released in 2001, made from these two vineyards. From the beginning, Gary and Rosella’s mission was to make wines that they themselves would love to drink. Their approach was met with critical recognition almost immediately. Two more beautiful vineyards were planted about a decade later: Sierra Mar and Soberanes. Today, Gary and his sons continue to improve and innovate in the vineyards and winery to produce the best quality their land can create.
Sipping Fine Wine
Medium Ruby color with aromas of berry fruits with floral and wood spice notes, aged for 11 months in oak. On the palate flavors of strawberry and cherry with tobacco, oak, tea, cola and herb floral notes. Well balanced, savory fine tannins, long finish ending with fruit and an oaky earthy character. Nice!

The 2021 Pinot Noir (Santa Lucia Highlands) is packed with dark red/purplish fruit, lavender, sage, mint, tobacco and mocha. This potent appellation-level Pinot Noir will surely be a crowd-pleaser, as it offers tons of fruit density and plenty of allure. I would give it a few months in bottle to soften.
