Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend 2019

$44.99

96 Points - new release                                        The new Ridge Lytton Springs Red now available! Limited. 96 Robert Parker: "The Ridge Lytton Springs is a blend of 72% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignane and 2% Mataro. The nose is lush and open, with aromas of aniseed, red and blue berries, blood orange and earth plus touches of tobacco leaf and dried flowers. The medium-bodied palate combines intense, powerful flavors with a more ethereal, silty structure, and it finishes with loads of juicy layers. It's stunning straight from bottle but will have more to give with time in the cellar... 96 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous): "The Ridge Lytton Springs is magnificent. Elegant, layered and so complete, the 2018 has a lot to offer, but it needs time to fully come together. Sweet red cherry, red plum, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal open up in the glass. Bright acids and beams of tannin give the wine its vibrant energy. Readers should plan on cellaring the 2018 for at least a few years. Wow!" 92 Points Jeb Dunnuck: "Checking in as 72% Zinfandel, 18% Petite Sirah, 8% Carignan, and the rest Mourvèdre, the Ridge 2018 Lytton Springs has a more nuanced, complex style that builds nicely with time in the glass. Red plums, mulberries, flowery incense, cedar, and a kiss of chocolate all define the bouquet, and this beauty hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a seamless, elegant texture (which is the hallmark of this vintage), and ample chalky minerality on the finish. It's going to benefit from a year or three of bottle age and shine for over a decade. I've had this cuvée with 20+ years of bottle age and it ages surprisingly well."

The 2019 Lytton Springs is another embryonic wine in this range. Readers will have to be patient. Time in the glass brings out an exotic mélange of rose petal, blood orange, pomegranate and star anise, all wrapped together by plush, silky tannins. There is a lot of wine here. Healthy dollops of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, Carignane and Mataro round out the blend, but the Zinfandel is pretty expressive in the leading role. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, May 2022)

I decanted knowing this was way too young. But found it balanced and drinking well. As usual, I suspect depth and character will develop with patience. 375ml.

Made for a nice strong wine for Magic: The Gathering night. Aromas of plum, blackberry and dark chocolate. Strong, lingering dark fruit, chalky minerality and cocoa. This one needs to breathe a bit.

Pepper on the nose; fruit is subtle compared to the Blasi and more complex. Still feels young

The 2019 has had some time to develop and it’s ready to drink now, but it can benefit from 2 years in cellar. Notes of cherry and blueberry, very subtle smoky aftertaste. Very strong aroma, that translates nicely on the palate.

Surprisingly muted. Was expecting more flavor and aromas. But not as good as precious vintages. Will let the next bottle open up more.
