Ridge Vineyards Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend 2013

$37.99

Brand new release of the famous Ridge Lytton Springs Red! 95 Points Antonio Galloni:  "The 2013 Lytton Springs has really come together over the last year, far exceeding my early expectations. Powerful and explosive in the glass, the 2013 boasts tons of inky blue/purplish fruit, mocha, spices, new leather, lavender and licorice. Readers will have to give the Lytton Springs at least a few years to shed some baby fat, but it is nearly impossible to resist, even at this early stage. Once again, the team at Ridge has produced an absolutely compelling Lytton Springs. The 16% Petite Sirah in the blend adds an unmistakable air of gravitas." The Lytton Springs are classic Dry Creek Valley. They show the potent, ripe boysenberry and blackberry of old-vine Sonoma zinfandel, notes of leaf and briar, and the intricacy of multiple varietals. Acid and tannin are firm, yet not overwhelming; in youth, at least, fruit predominates. These balanced, powerful reds become more nuanced with age.

Showing very, very well right now. Two of the four bottles we tasted had a slightly oxidative fruit character, giving an overall impression of Bordelaise winemaking. Lots of blueberry pie, baking spice and coffee grind notes with a hint of mocha, vanillin sweetness and spice box/leather finish. Incredible length, purity and complexity. One of the more memorable Ridge bottles I’ve had and it will only continue to improve.

Bright, glass-clinging purple red. Nose and palate of plum-berry cobbler. Mouth filling with juicy, medium acidity and medium minus tannins (just a dusting on the finish). Holding up very well, as expected. Steak? Stroganoff? Southern Italian? You got this.

Wonderful ripe and sublime zin blend. Some cigar ash and dried spice in the background. Would be a good intro wine for people venturing into different isles of the store

Dark cherry liqueur on the nose. Sugar coated plums, dark berries, sweet bay leaf and fine grained tannins in the mouth. Another "satisfying" wine from Ridge.

Dominated by sweetened Cacao. Quite full. A touch sweet. Very good at its price point. Fruit forward and not so dry.

Nice round, full, lush, ripe; blackberries, blueberries, boysenberries with dark chocolate notes. Drinking well for a 13 at this early stage. Very good dark chocolate wine.
