Ramey Wine Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

$53.99

David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is a great introduction. 93 Points Aontonio Galloni (Vinous): "The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as appealing today as it was last year. Supple, open-knit and expressive, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Floral and savory notes add an attractive upper register in this mid-weight, juicy 2014. Bright red stone fruit, plum and savory notes abound on the finish. This is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet from David Ramey that shows just how appealing 2014 can be." 91 Points Robert Parker: "Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon delivers notes of ripe blackberries, black cherries and garrigue with hints of Provence herbs and cigar box. The medium-bodied palate offers cassis in the mouth with good core fruit, firm, grainy tannnins and good length. This is textbook Napa Cab, done well... ...David Ramey has long had one of the most impressive resumes for any California winemaker. He worked at Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux and for Christian Moueix at Dominus. He also consulted and worked for a number of high end Napa Valley wineries. Of course, his first love is Ramey Wine Cellars, and he has built an extensive empire of Chardonnays, Cabernet Sauvignons and more recently Syrahs as well as a tiny quantity of Pinot Noir (talk about going to the dark side)."

Blackberry, cassis, vanilla, raspberry, eucalyptus, licorice and oak. Great structure and velvety tannins.

We had the 2014 Vintage on 3/13/21. This had darker tastes compared to 204 Annum. See prior notes

We had the 2014 Vintage on 2/14/21. Blackberry, plum, cedar, chocolate and oak. Full bodied and dark fruit forward. A pretty good Napa Cab.

Vanilla, cocoa and dark fruit domjnate the aromas and profile of this Cab, nice acidity and fine grained texture of tannins. Nie but not as good as the bottle tasted a few months back of the same vintage, a little but ripe and less Bordeaux like it seems, but still good. 90-91

The 2014 Vintage Cab Sav Ramey was beautiful. The nose was light with hints of earth and dark red fruit aromas. However, the palate was a completely different experience which started dry and robust with leather, earth, and mushroom notes, ending with a crisp and tart and softly better cranberry notes. The aftertaste was elegant with a taste that lingers only for a moment before fading. I took an extra bottle home after dinner. :) This is a gem!

Can’t go wrong when it’s 1/2 price at Winn Dixie! A very nice cab sauv from Healdsburg which shines on the fruit and a very nice finish!! If you can get this fir the $40’s range - BUY BUY BUY!! if it’s regular price, there are more named vintners with better product from this region!!

Surprised nicely by this expressive nose that goes on and on with layers of aromas such as blackcurrant, plum, moka, cedar, vanilla and licorice. The mouth is medium bodied and very approachable right now, medium tannins with some softness and silkyness in terms of texture, fruit and balance as well on a finish that has decent length and is very good, drinks like a charm. Comparable to a good Bordeaux but no need to wait 10+ years.

A good, but not amazing Napa cab. Ramey is always dependable, and one of our favorites. The bottle warmed up a bit so this one wasn't at peak. Paired well with a coffee and ancho crusted elk backstrap. The fruit really works well, bringing out the flavor of the elk. Yum.

2014. $64 Tasted Feb 2020. I am forecasting this wine will open beautifully but it is too tannic and tart right now. There is a lot of structure to this wine and good berry underneath but for now it is too tannic. 84
