Ramey Wine Cellars Claret Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2015

$39.99

David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2015 Claret Napa Valley is a great introduction. 90 Points Wine Spectator:  " Pure, clean and graceful, this is very rich and well-structured, with a deep, layered core of currant, blackberry, mocha and underbrush, ending with a long, lingering aftertaste. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2027." Claret is an English word meaning wine from Bordeaux. Ramey uses it to signify a blend of the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  The Ramey Claret Napa Valley is a blend from the Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Diamond Mountain vineyard.

O M G! Smooth, not dry at all, like BUTTER. One of the best wines I've ever had!

Following winemaking posts at Rudd, Dominus, Chalk Hill and Matanzas Creek, David Ramey and his wife, Carla began their own label in 1996. A blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 2% Syrah & 2% Petit Verdot. Deep purple with fresh berry fruit aromas and earthy spice tones. Blackberry currant flavors, almost jammy, with herb notes and soft fine tannins. Medium finish, easy drinking best now over next couple of years, ending with a spice character.

I enjoy this red blend for the price point ($40). Cabernet, Merlot, Syrah, Malbec & Petit Verdot showcase this Claret. Not super fruit forward with some aging characteristics.

Subtle aroma and flavors of smoked black cherry, raspberry, dark cocoa, & wet wood. Smooth and soft. Medium tannin. Short finish. Medium-plus acidity.

Not huge on the Malbec side. A little peppery. Great wine.
