Ramey Wine Cellars Claret Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

$39.99

David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2012 Claret Napa Valley is a great introduction. 91 Points Robert Parker: - "The Claret comes across as quite floral, soft and surprisingly understated for the vintage. Floral notes add brightness on the finish in this gracious, approachable wine. The 2010 is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, and 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2022...David Ramey is one of the few California winemakers who thinks in terms of structure, not just flavor, something that sets him apart from many of his peers. All of the wines I tasted at Ramey’s cellar just outside Healdsburg were terrific. I also sampled a number of older wines, all of which have held up very well. Best of all, most of the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the bottle. ." Claret is an English word meaning wine from Bordeaux. Ramey uses it to signify a blend of the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot.  The Ramey 2014 Claret Napa Valley is a blend from the Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Diamond Mountain vineyard.

Blackberry, cherry cola, vanilla, raspberry, eucalyptus, licorice and oak. Great structure and velvety tannins.

Very drinkable. Nice blend. Light on the palate. I taste currants and some blackberry notes. Good legs.

We had the 2014 vintage on 10/14-15/22. This is an easy drinking red. The tannins were smoothed out. Medium bodied and well balanced. Tastes of blackberry, plum, vanilla and spice. Black fruit and menthol on the bouquet. A good value for sure.

We had the 2014 Vintage on 11/3-4/18. Tastes of blackberry, vanilla, graphite on the palate. Smooth finish to this full bodied wine. Well balanced and really no tannin.

Quite a good wine that pairs well with a CEO. But seriously, a strong but balanced not overpowered California cab. You can taste the mellowing influence of Syrah in the blend. Tanning and acid reasonably low with some nice dried fruit notes on the back finish.

Sleek and structured. Curious as to where a blend like this will go as it ages...
