David Ramey is making some of the finest Cabernet blends in California today - we highly recommend trying them now. The Ramey 2012 Claret Napa Valley is a great introduction. 91 Points Robert Parker: - "The 2010 Claret comes across as quite floral, soft and surprisingly understated for the vintage. Floral notes add brightness on the finish in this gracious, approachable wine. The 2010 is 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Syrah, and 2% Petit Verdot. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2022...David Ramey is one of the few California winemakers who thinks in terms of structure, not just flavor, something that sets him apart from many of his peers. All of the wines I tasted at Ramey’s cellar just outside Healdsburg were terrific. I also sampled a number of older wines, all of which have held up very well. Best of all, most of the wines remain very fairly priced considering the quality of what is in the bottle. ." Claret is an English word meaning wine from Bordeaux. Ramey uses it to signify a blend of the Bordeaux varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The Ramey 2010 Claret Napa Valley is a blend from the Jericho Canyon Vineyard and Diamond Mountain vineyard.

Thursday night on the eve of a new weekend I have opened the 2012 Ramey Claret Napa Valley. This is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot. The nose has notes of black cherry, blackberry, plum sauce, black currant, cedar, mocha, spices and earth. On the palate there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, graphite, cedar, spice, oak and freshly tilled dark earth. Here we have a full bodied wine that fills your mouth with smooth velvety goodness, medium + acidity and medium + fine tannins that gives way to a long black fruit earthy finish. Glad to be on the doorstep of another weekend and wishing everyone to staying safe and healthy. Have an enjoyable weekend everyone. Nostrovia!

Decanted for two hours and still a bit tight. Dusty red/black fruit, pebbles, warm spices. Don't drink for a while.

Sleek and elegant. Fruit is pure and immediate, finely structured, Graves-esque minerality on the finish.

Tonight we are trying Napa Valley's own Ramey, Cabernet Sauvignon 2012 produced and bottled by Ramey Wine Cellars. This is amazing! The cork has almost no absorption, the color is dark dark purple, and the legs are 10 seconds long and slow. The boquet is bosenberry / blackberry. The initial palate has a small amount of tart blackberry and it is buttery smooth on the tongue. No stimulation. Just pure silky joy. The finish is chocolate and raisin. There is a mild dryness. It leaves you wanting to take another sip immediately!!!!! WOW!! I love this wine! This is a definate must have by the case!!!

A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 24% Merlot, 2% Malbec, 2% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot, deep red color with dark fruit aromas and complex soft spice. The palate shows ripe Berry flavors, rich with spice, leather and cacao, nicely balanced. Tannins are soft making this an approachable wine meant to consume now as cellaring will not add much benefit.
