Great new small-production Pinot Noir from hot producer Radio-Coteau - get the new release before the scores come out. Spanish for “fog,” la neblina rolls in from the Pacific Ocean to blanket and cool the coastal Pinot Noir vineyards of western Sonoma County. The core component of the 2013 La Neblina was derived from the Hallberg Ranch, just up the road from the winery. This vintage offers additional vineyard sources, most notably from a coastal site on a ridge above the town of Occidental. Sheep are helping to facilitate an organic farming transition by eliminating the need for in–vine–row chemical weed control. 90 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Pinot Noir La Neblina (10% stems are used) comes from the Goldridge soils of the Sebastopol Bench area. Primarily Dijon clones blended with a small amount of the Mt. Eden clone, this is an earthy, pomegranate, plum and Asian soy-scented Pinot with an elegant, crisp, zesty style in keeping with the vintage character. Drink now-2020... ...Eric Sussman has over a decade of experience at his Radio Coteau winery. All his fermentations are by indigenous yeasts, the SO2 regime is low, and the vineyards are either organically or biodynamically farmed. The gentle approach to winemaking is further evidenced by the fact that his wines are bottled without fining or filtration. Moreover, this Sonoma estate has generally kept its prices modest, especially given the quality of the wines.

A producer that finds itself included in my top five of true Sonoma Coast wizardry. The Las Colinas Syrah is always full the magic and I’ve found particular joy in the 2012 vintage of this La Neblina. The 2013 here was a little more nimble and lacked a bit of the depth the 2012’s I’ve tasted have offered. Wishing there was some for day 2 but the King Salmon, roast squash, & shiitake mushrooms soaked it all up. A lovely wine that’s garnered by grace. The loudest voice is the one you don’t first hear. Expressive California fruit with a solid streak of woodsy minerality. Wears its weight well with spicy tannin and piquant acidity. Exotic range of fruit but mostly steers clear of baking spice/cola territory, and minimal oak. Unfined and unfiltered, classically made wines from sunny climes.

Much lighter in style than traditional Sonoma coast pinots. I feel more time in bottle is necessary.
