Quintessa Rutherford Red Blend 2017

98 points                           Quintessa is one of Napa Valley's most collective Cabernets year-in and year-out and the 2016 is no exception.  Extremely limited. 98 Points James Suckling: "Phenomenal aromas of crushed berries, forest fruit, mushrooms and iron. Medium to full body, with layers of soft and refined tannins that follow through to a beautiful finish. Extremely long and refined. This shows depth and structure with balance and harmony. Hard not to open the bottle now and drink it, but it appears to be closing down now. Needs four to five years to show it all." 95 Points Robert Parker: "Already bottled, the 2017 Quintessa displays a deep garnet-purple color. The nose needs a little coaxing before it reveals bold, expressive notes of crushed red and black plums, black currant jelly, wild blueberries and kirsch with nuances of camphor, cloves, cedar and lilacs plus a hint of oolong tea. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has beautifully expressed, elegant red and black fruit layers, with a sturdy, grainy frame and plenty of freshness, finishing long and earthy.

One of the best 17 vintage reds we have tasted. Beautifully balanced and textured. Right in the middle of its drinking window. So good we immediately bought more.

17 vintage is drinking perfectly now. Nose displays rose hip syrup and barrel toast. Mid palate is soft, round and plush. Maraschino cherries and opulent sweetness complete what is an excellent finish for the vintage. Tannins are integrated, and there’s not much acidity at this point. Overall, excellent.
