Quintessa Rutherford Red Blend 2014

$179.99

96 points - limited                           Quintessa is one of Napa Valley's most collective Cabernets year-in and year-out and the 2014 is no exception.  Extremely limited. 96 Points Robert Parker  "The 2013 Proprietary Red Wine has always been good, but I think they have re-positioned themselves at a much higher pinnacle with the 2013. This is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated blend but has important component parts such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot from their gorgeous vineyards just off the Silverado Trail in Rutherford. The wine has a dense bluish/purple color and a beautiful nose of black raspberries, blueberries, lead pencil shavings, and touches of oak and spring flowers. The complexity of the fragrance is followed by a wine with terrific body, stunning purity, wonderful balance, and great depth and richness. This is certainly the most profound Quintessa made to date and should evolve gracefully for at least 20-25 years...Quintessa is a magnificent estate in Rutherford, and this is the flagship wine of proprietor Agustin Huneeus."

What a superb wine, first and foremost. Just so beautiful and powerful. A deep, dark burgundy color in the glass. The nose is pure and alive with cherries and blackberries initially. Oak, as ever, along with a slight hint of vanilla and earth. Really pretty floral notes which accentuates the total package. Terrific depth and balance here. Every now and again Napa reminds you of what it can really be. Very modern and elegant with so much personality. Everything here is restrained and refined. The fruit on the palate is dramatic and fresh. Vibrant red fruit with the customary woodsy elements. A touch of tobacco and well integrated smoke just for good measure. The finish is long and lusty and leaves you wanting more. Made for the long run for sure but so delicious now. A true gem of a wine.

We had the 2014 Vintage on 12/18/22. This is a fantastic wine from Quintessa. The winery produces consistently excellent wine. Tastes of blackberry, black cherry and oak. Fruit forward and well balanced. A winner.
