Quintessa is one of Napa Valley's most collective Cabernets year-in and year-out and the 2011 is no exception. Extremely limited.93 Points Wine Enthusiast: "The effect is memorable, the wine pungent in red plum and cherry. Light, layered and elegantly smooth on the palate, it has a backdrop of black pepper and clove. Cellar through 2025."Quintessa owns some magnificent vineyards adjacent to the Silverado Trail, south of St. Helena, so the introduction of Michel Rolland as their consultant should pay dividends handsomely.Winemaker Charles Thomas: "In 2011, careful yield management and a truly ideal fall ripening climate gave us wines with structure, refined tannins, elegance and potential for long aging. The 2011 Quintessa opens with beautiful complexity, perfume and nuance on the nose. In the glass, the wine amplifies with time and a quiet entry builds to a structured, solid mid-palate with dense black fruit. Its long finish unfolds with exquisitely supple tannins and a caress of sweet fruit."

I think this bottle is past its prime for my liking. I was hoping for more.

At home tonight doing ribeye cap. Probably would have shown better a few years ago. I’m going to drink my remaining bottles ASAP.

This had delicate red cherries and plums on the nose as well a slight mineral note. We actually had two bottles of this both were 2011. Strangely the first bottle finished more with pepper and spice and maybe a cola touch. The second bottle was smooth and velvety with luscious darker fruits, hints of vanilla and soil. The second bottle was noticeably different in its presentation and was actually preferred at the table. Mind you the first was still quite good. Just different. Would love to know the science of why but overall it is not that big of a deal.
