Plumpjack Napa Valley Syrah 2015

$62.99

96 Points - limited                              New release of Plumpjack's Syrah- limited. 95 Points Jeb Dunnick: "The 2015 Syrah from PlumpJack was fermented with 40% Whole Clusters and raised in 68% new French oak. It’s a gorgeous, pedal to the metal beauty that boasts a deep, saturated purple color as well as tons of smoked meats, blackberry, olive, and wood smoke aromas and flavors. Rich and full-bodied, yet light on its feet, this powerful Napa Valley Syrah has a touch of old world charm and will drink nicely for at least a decade, although I see no need to delay gratification. 839 cases." 95 Points Antonio Galloni (Vinous):  "Plumpjack's 2015 Syrah is lush, sensual and totally inviting. All the elements fall into place effortlessly. A rush of black cherry, plum, chocolate, lavender, spice and licorice infuse this bold, intensely layered Syrah. The 30% whole clusters are nearly buried by the sheer richness of the fruit." Grown in Napa, but inspired by the Northern Rhone style, this Syrah exhibits a smoky, gamey nose layered with white and black pepper, with complementary notes of blueberry and raspberry aromatics. Well structured, the palate is full of bright raspberries, black pepper and smoke. This wine has beautiful finesse, great concentration and vibrant acidity.

Medium bodied Shiraz from Napa. Tight! Plenty of power,. Needs a much longer decant than we had time for tonight.

Last bottle of Plumpjack I will ever drink. I think the wine is overpriced for its mediocrity. Way too much acid, no finish, overspiced. Considering it’s owned by the biggest fraud in the US, Gavin Newsom, I’m not surprised but this solidifies my decision to never give them a dime.

Deep purple color. Black licorice and another candy note I couldn’t quite pinpoint - peppermint maybe - on the nose. Dark cherry and cassis notes with great texture and balance. A fun wine to enjoy on its own.
