New release of Plumpjack's Syrah- limited. The 2013 PlumpJack Syrah comes from the Stagecoach Vineyard located in the eastern hills above Oakville and Lee Hudson’s Henry Drive Vineyard in Napa’s Carneros District.previous vintage 94 Points Wine Spectator: "Riveting aromas of blackberry, black licorice, tar, mocha-laced wood, cedar and plum give this an enticingly complex mix of flavors, yet for all those elements this glides along, cascading on the finish. Drink now through 2027."Robert Parker: "The biggest news at Plumpjack is the departure of long-time winemaker Tony Biagi, who crafted a number of the finest wines to emerge from this gorgeous property in Oakville. Biagi is moving to Hourglass, which has needed more day-to-day attention for some time, while Plumpjack has installed an on-site winemaker for each of their three properties; Plumpjack, Cade and Odette, the company's new project in the Stags' Leap district. The new winemaker at Plumpjack is Aaron Miller, previously of Groth and Lewis." Grown in Napa, but inspired by the Northern Rhone style, this Syrah exhibits a smoky, gamey nose layered with white and black pepper, with complementary notes of blueberry and raspberry aromatics. Well structured, the palate is full of bright raspberries, black pepper and smoke. This wine has beautiful finesse, great concentration and vibrant acidity.

See my prior notes. Becoming a benchmark Syrah in Cali for sure. No signs of aging. Opulent and jammy, finishing with white pepper, bold tannins and complementary acidity. Outstanding.

In our opinion, this is one of the best Napa syrah’s in the < $50 category. Raspberries and blueberries combine with white pepper, and close to neutral oak. Balanced with suave tannins. Never had a poor bottle of syrah from Plumpy.

Closing in on three feet of rain from Harvey. Reaching for something strong. Plumpjack's 2013 Syrah comes from two of the most high profile Napa vineyards for Syrah, Hudson and Stagecoach. Creosote, mocha, crème de cassis, black raspberry, leather, wild game, incense, lavender, and licorice. A mouth-staining mix of Northern Rhone flavor and Southern Rhone richness, with Napa Valley polish.

Black olive on open but blew off to blueberry pie. Baking spice, vanilla, with bitter graphite on the finish

Plumpjack is a consistent and delicious bottle of wine. Just a nice bottle that serves well with a bit of time after pouring into the glass.

One of my favorites. Great wine with full flavor and spice on the back end. Great for BBQ meats or steak
