New release if the original Pisoni Pinot Noir - Limited 96 points Jeb Dunnuck: "Brilliant and worthy of comparison to top Pinot Noirs and Burgundies, the Pisoni 2023 Pinot Noir offers a gorgeous array of red and black fruits intermixed with forest floor, dried flowers, baking spices, and leather. This medium to full-bodied Pinot Noir reveals a layered, elegant mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, integrated acidity, and a great finish. Made with 30% whole clusters and fermented in oak tanks before 11 months in 65% new French oak, it shows the softer, supple, incredibly charming style of the vintage and will drink beautifully over the coming 10-12 years." ...This benchmark estate in the Santa Lucia Highlands is run by the Pisoni family, with Mark Pisoni managing the vineyards and Jeff Pisoni making the wines. While they only release a single estate Pinot Noir under the Pisoni label (always 100% from the Pisoni Vineyard), they also release a number of highly recommended Pinots and Syrahs (from different vineyards) under their Lucia line." Gary Pisoni evoked a passion for wine and revolutionized how people perceived Pinot Noir in the Santa Lucia Highlands. His 1982 planting in the unlikely terrain of his mountain vineyard was abound with firsts, hurdles and naysayers—until he planted his proprietary selection of Pinot Noir, discovered water and began producing world-renown Pinot Noir. The iconic Pisoni Estate is now managed by brothers Mark and Jeff, vineyard manager and winemaker. The Vineyards consist of small blocks arranged on and around the ridges of the mountainous landscape. Farming is precise, and carried out with a long-term vision and sustainability. The Pisoni Family produces essentially one wine per year under this label. The wine is a blend from several low-yielding blocks on the Estate and is hand-crafted to best represent the vineyard and spirit of the Pisoni Family. Total production ranges from 500 to 800 cases annually, depending on yield.
