A Brix26 exclusive, Pierre Morlet's "Grand Reserve" is a Premier Cru Champagne at a fraction of the price of its peers. Mostly distributed in France, very little has made it to the U.S. until now. The Morlet family has been cultivating vineyards in Avenay-Val-d'Or since the early 1800's and, after four generations, Champagne Pierre Morlet et Fils has become synonymous in France for authentic and handcrafted Champagnes. Interestingly, Pierre Morlet's grandson Nicolas is currently a consulting winemaker at Napa Valley's cultish Peter Michael Winery.

Easy enjoyment factor with this champagne. When we visited Morlet in Napa last year, they like to pour their vintage offering of Pierre Morlet as a welcome upon arrival. I enjoy their family label, but wish it was more readily available. Grand cru fruit. 76/24 Pinot/chard and it shows. This is rich, yeasty and powerful. Borders on creamy with the mousse. Limestone grit, lemon and white chocolate scone, with hints of nougat. This NV offering is very enjoyable for the price, and reminds me of a less layered/complex Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve (which is a favorite of mine).

See note below, consistent but less baked notes and more minerality, same disgorgement a year later. #morlet #champagnealldamnday

Outstanding! Biscuit, baked apple and pear, laser like acidity with a crazy long finish. Great texture and richness from the 74% Pinot Noir, fine bubbles, super clean, great acidity.
