Piedrasassi PS Santa Barbara County Syrah 2013

$34.99

An under-the-radar cult Syrah from Santa Barbara - limited. 2013 was a beautiful year for syrah—good yield and great quality of fruit. As a result, we were able to make delicious and compelling wine even at the Santa Barbara County non-vineyard designate level. Fruit forward nose gives way to some feminine high notes, while in the mouth there are energy, uplift, and definition. 94 Points Robert Parker:  "More elegant and layered than the Central Coast Syrah, the 2013 Syrah Santa Barbara County exhibits ample black raspberry, chalky minerality, olive, pepper and hints of vanilla bean to go with a medium to full-boded, seamless, gorgeously textured style on the palate. Possessing an almost granite-like minerality, drink this rockin' Nothern Rhone-style red over the coming 5-8 years...There is little doubt Sashi Moorman is one of the great rising talents in California. In addition to making the wines at Stolpman, Evening Land and Sandhi, Moorman has his own label, Piedrasassi, where he does some of his most cutting edge work."

Bright and black and quite savory. Olives with a touch of sausage and tarry fruit.

Good- dark, concentrated fruit. Nice acids- balance. Not the funkiness I like in French Rhones, but excellent.

Gorgeous. Structure, focus, balance. Woody astringency, savory, delicate spices over fruit.
