Piedrasassi PS Santa Barbara County Syrah 2012

$34.99

An under-the-radar cult Syrah from Santa Barbara - limited. 2012 was a beautiful year for syrah—good yield and great quality of fruit. As a result, we were able to make delicious and compelling wine even at the Santa Barbara County non-vineyard designate level. Fruit forward nose gives way to some feminine high notes, while in the mouth there are energy, uplift, and definition. 92 Points Robert Parker:  "Coming from a mix of vineyards, there are 250 cases of the 2012 Syrah Santa Barbara County out there. It’s another beautiful effort from Sashi that offers classic Syrah violets, crushed flowers, toast and assorted black raspberry-styled fruits that flow seamlessly to a medium-bodied, pretty and elegantly styled wine that can be enjoyed any time over the coming 7-8 years. At this quality, it represents a superb value. ..There is little doubt Sashi Moorman is one of the great rising talents in California. In addition to making the wines at Stolpman, Evening Land and Sandhi, Moorman has his own label, Piedrasassi, where he does some of his most cutting edge work."

Holy cow, if this is the appellation wine I can't wait to try the single vineyard wines. It's everything I look for in a Syrah: lots of flavor, concentration, structure, but fresh acidity, not too heavy, and minerals, complex aromas, and umami.

Love this style - very northern Rhone tasting ( hence all the high acid comments)

How Syrah should be. Minerally, meaty, fresh fruit aromas. One of my faves.

Fruity and structured with nice acid and well integrated oak. I am impressed! Goes well with middle eastern burgers.
