Philip Togni Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$109.99

Another small-production Cabernet gem from Philip Togni's Spring Mountain estate vineyard.  Limited. 97 Points Antonio Galloni:  "The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is stunningly beautiful, especially in the way it brings together intense, voluptuous fruit and structure. Racy and polished in the glass, the 2012 races across the palate with intense dark red stone fruit, spice, cedar, tobacco and floral notes, all in an energetic, vibrant style that suggests 25-30 years of aging will be a breeze. What a gorgeous wine this is. Togni fans have a lot to look forward to, as both the 2012 and 2013 Cabernet Sauvignons are nothing less than exhilarating. The 2012 impresses for its raciness and overall balance - not an easy thing to achieve in 2012 - while the 2013 is a viscerally thrilling wine that sits right up there with the very best wines of the year. Simply put, these are some of the most beautiful wines being made in Napa Valley today. Time passes, but little appears to change at this small, family run winery perched atop Spring Mountain where Philip and Birgitta Togni, along with their daughter Lisa, continue to build on legacy first established with Togni's epic Cabernets of the 1960s and 1970s, wines that are still magnificent today."

So Bordeaux. Tasted blind and was convinced. Very structured and young, age with confidence. Very juicy core of black/blue fruit under a shell of youthfulness. Properly old school.

Real cab in a warm vintage! Black cherry, hints of green herb/Pyrazine. Lovely, plush mid-palate bookended by chalky tannins.

Double decanted. And then double decanted AGAIN and allowed to sit for an hour while drinking down the paper planes Rose. This is a black cherry monster. This wine poured a nice dirty maroon into the glass. The nose was black cherry, a bit of spice and pepper. The entry of this wine is full bodied youthful and chalky black cherry, graphite, . Lots of fruit in the middle as well, but some herbal characteristics as well. Finishes with some black cherry. This wine is a MONSTER. And given that this wine will last for 3 decades, to be drinking this powerfully so young in the game is a testament. Amazing.

Nice big red but in my opinion, not worth the price tag. I was surprised since the guy who recommended it to me has similar taste. I still prefer Roy Estate or Caymus at this price point.

Got a sick price online, let it air out for at least 30 min, fruity and bold notes, smooth

Blind reactions: Nearly everyone on the panel was convinced this wine was a Bordeaux. In the words of Mayacamas Vineyard Estate Director @Jimmy Hayes "Very old world feel, I would in no way be surprised if this was from another country. Fruit quality is really pretty, lots of black fruit." Pictured: Winemaker/Grapegrower @Graeme MacDonald selected this as his top pick from the tasting for its elegant old-Napa restraint, impeccable balance and clear ageability.
