Another beauty from the Chardonnay masters at Patz & Hall - sourced from the Hyde Vineyard made famous by Kistler! Hyde Vineyard has justifiably become one of the superstar vineyards in Carneros. The Patz & Hall 2012 Hyde Vineyard Chardonnay is perhaps the most sought after fruit in the pantheon of great California vineyards. 92 Points Robert Parker: "The 2013 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard (1,100 cases produced) is made from the Hyde-Old Wente clone. From sandy, clay, loam soils, it offers up aromas of honeysuckle, white peach, delicate pineapple and subtle oak. Medium to full-bodied with great acidity as well as beautiful purity and freshness, it should drink nicely for 5-7 years, perhaps longer...Patz and Hall has long been a model for how to run a high-quality négociant business, buying fruit from top vineyards and crafting it into wines that can compete with the finest from estate vineyards.."

Older and a bit past its peak but still delicious. Patz & Hall no longer sources from the Hudson vineyard so this was great to revisit.

Deep amber color showing its age. Palate is heavy on secondary aroma characteristics including hazelnut, toffee, and resin. This is one of the last of the Hudson’s Patz & Hall made and I would drink up!

Pop and pour for an early valentine's dinner. A striking pale gold color. On the nose: muted nose of apple, pear, lemon, floral, crushed stone. Taste: A chalky, creamy smooth medium plus body wine with pineapple, peach, grass, buttered toast, honey and a minerally lemon medium finish. Had better expressions of Hyde vineyard, but went well with the Hog Island Oysters!

The entire collection has taken it up a notch the last 3/4 years.
