One of Napa Valley's top new Cabernets - rare new release from the spectacular 2014 vintage. 95 Points Brix26: "The aromas of the Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon are reminiscent of of ripe black mission figs enlivened with a chiffonade of basil. From beginning to end the structure displays an elegant crescendo with a finale that begs for an encore. One of the best Cabs from the 2010 vintage we've tasted." The Palmazes bought a forgotten stone winery, a fine old house badly in need of renovation, and acres of land that had once produced fine Napa wines. The little valley had been the site of Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, founded in 1881 by Henry Hagen, one of Napa Valley’s pioneer winemakers. Henry Hagen produced wines that garnered many awards, including a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889. During that era, Cedar Knoll was one of Napa’s premier wineries. The vineyards survived the Wine Country’s phylloxera infestation in the 1890s, but Prohibition was fatal. The winery fell into disrepair and the vineyards lay fallow for nearly eighty years. Today, the vineyards are burgeoning, the restored Hagen house is a family home again, and the winery has been reinvented.

Wonderful aromatics - sweet red berries and wet slate on a sunny day. A great finish dark berries and sweet tea. Great bottle and I can't wait to visit Palmaz Winery on my next trip to Napa!

On opening it was a bit fruit forward with some tannin bite. After an hr or so additional components came out like graphite and leather. Tannins were still firm but softened a bit and only noticeable on its finish.

Plumsand some menthol-eucalyptus on the nose. Pretty big and intense. Beautiful fruit, tannic but not out of whack. Such a good wine. This could sit for a few more years, but given the inconsistency of my cellar, i didnt want to wait. Had it with a grilled, dry- aged NY Strip. Oh my....
