Palmaz Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

$114.99

One of Napa Valley's top new Cabernets - rare new release from the spectacular 2012 vintage. 95 Points Brix26:  "The aromas of the 2010 Palmaz Cabernet Sauvignon are reminiscent of of ripe black mission figs enlivened with a chiffonade of basil. From beginning to end the structure displays an elegant crescendo with a finale that begs for an encore. One of the best Cabs from the 2010 vintage we've tasted." The Palmazes bought a forgotten stone winery, a fine old house badly in need of renovation, and acres of land that had once produced fine Napa wines. The little valley had been the site of Cedar Knoll Vineyard and Winery, founded in 1881 by Henry Hagen, one of Napa Valley’s pioneer winemakers. Henry Hagen produced wines that garnered many awards, including a silver medal at the Paris Exposition of 1889. During that era, Cedar Knoll was one of Napa’s premier wineries. The vineyards survived the Wine Country’s phylloxera infestation in the 1890s, but Prohibition was fatal. The winery fell into disrepair and the vineyards lay fallow for nearly eighty years. Today, the vineyards are burgeoning, the restored Hagen house is a family home again, and the winery has been reinvented.

Drinking damn good right now. Just tried two different bottles, and they were consistent with each other. Soft with nice acidity, and multi-faceted

Love Palmaz wines (and I might love their winery tour over their wines, which says something about their tour). Elegant red, blue and black fruits. They rush at you, but give way to earthy and herbal secondary notes alongside Mexican vanilla. The finish is lengthy and velvet like. This is a Napa Cab that is so easy and enjoyable to drink.

Really love this wines red fruit tension against its firm tannin structure and balanced acidity. This could've went the way of too many overly manipulated wines with the technology this estate has, but it seems they know where to stop and let the fruit shine. @Capital Grill in Austin for Palmaz luncheon.

The king of Coombsville! Splendid Cab full of dark fruit, mocha and black tea in a robe of velvety tannins with a bit of grip.
