Pahlmeyer Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend 2014

$159.99

96 Points Parker                            The finest Proprietary Red Pahlmeyer has ever produced!  Cellar Selection. 97 points James Suckling:  "Fantastic aromatics with blackberries, blackcurrants and iodine. Licorice, too. Medium to fulll body, fine and velvety tannins and a very polished and gorgeous finish. Caressing and dialed in. Why wait? An intellectual wine here. Lovely now." 95 points Wine Spectator:  "A remarkable effort, engagingly rich and concentrated, with a deep, firm mix of licorice-shaded blackberry, currant, graphite, dried herb and cedary oak notes. The flavors hold and gain, leading to a persistent finish that keeps echoing the core elements." 94 points Robert Parker: "The 2014 Proprietary Red Wine is a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Cabernet Franc and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec showing beautiful pure fruit, silky, velvety tannins, a layered mouthfeel and deep blackcurrant and black cherry fruit intermixed with cedar wood, fruitcake and smoky oak. This is a terrific wine as well and it will be the fastest out of the gate in terms of evolution - drinking beautifully for the next 15+ years. Pahlmeyer certainly has one of the most consistently superb resumés for the last 30 years that any winery could desire." One of California’s super-star producers, Pahlmeyer’s wines have a fabulous track record of aging well. This estate was one of Helen Turley’s first clients, and since she departed one of her assistants, Erin Green, has continued to turn out sumptuous reds as well as exquisite Chardonnays.

Monthly WTF group recap. Theme this month was “bring something special”. Normally we taste all of the wines blind, but we decided to do a relaxed night with amazing wines at a great restaurant. Spectacular evening! I consistently find these wines to be very soft and plush. A very approachable mix of dark fruits with sweet spice and oak on the nose. Velvet like on the palate with red, blue and black fruits alongside baked fig. The finish has nutmeg, sweet cocoa and baking spices. Thanks @Ryan G .

From magnum at the SFG. Ultra smooth and a little lighter than expected. Very bright red fruit flavors and easy to gulp.

Opulent, rich Napa cab. Not subtle, but who cares. This is super yummy. Drink up. No need to wait on this.
